Symptoms of Stress: Introduction

The immediate symptoms of stress include increased heart rate increased heart rate (tachycardia), high blood pressure (hypertension) and dilated pupils. Short-term acute stress can actually help a person to react more quickly, think more clearly, and be more attentive and productive.

The ongoing effect of chronic stress on the blood vessels of the body can damage them and contribute to the risk of developing serious diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and heart disease. This can result in such symptoms as chest painangina, and shortness of breath. Rarely, extremely intense stress can result in a serious condition called stress-induced cardiomyopathy cardiomyopathy.
