The only thing standing between your present state and desired state or full potential, is negative stress and tension.

Experience review - Peace at Work

An experience to - still your mind and live your life: Most of us can relate to having a busy mind. If you're feeling tired and stressed, or simply would like to try something different to help you realise your full potential and live the life you desire, the Peace at Work technique is definitely worth a try! I can say that with first hand experience as I have been using the technique myself for the past couple of weeks and am happy to share my personal experience with you.

The compendium: My experience began when I saw the Peace at Work compendium sitting on my desk and was asked to trial it. I soon found out that the compendium included a very professional and easy to follow manual, 2 CDs, a smart pen, earphones and a mirror! I had tried meditation techniques in the past but none that involved keeping my eyes open and certainly none that involved a mirror! If you're feeling cynical, please stay with me as I felt cynical too but I kept an open mind and tried something new.

The manual: Next, I read the manual and liked its simplicity. The manual itself, without unnecessary detail and complexity, was speaking to the promise of stilling my mind. It revealed that it's a corporate meditation training program teaching individuals tools to release stress and tension with the aim of increasing clarity, productivity and peace of mind.

The manual then outlines the journey of discovery, how life's experiences and tension are absorbed into the soul body (or subconscious) and describes the energy flow from our soul body centre (or essence). It states that it's a tangible experience with feedback, the tension rising to the surface and in this way enabling awareness of the effects of tension being released, visually, physically, mentally and/or emotionally. The manual also contains a journal to help you establish a routine.

The practice: I started with a 20-minute orientation session, which takes you through feeling and observing the seven major energy centres (as described in the manual) and breathing. I thought looking into the mirror would distract me, but that only lasted a short while as I maintained my focus, as instructed, on the region between the eyes. I found that I was in fact less distracted by thoughts by having my eyes open and focusing on the region between the eyes. First nice surprise!

Second nice surprise was the simplicity (the consistent thread) of the guiding voice on the track, no instructions to bear in mind or maze-like visualisations, just you connecting with the deeper you. Third nice surprise was that the accompanying music helped me focus with its steady and subtle beat and peaceful baroque tunes. Also, you can tailor the routine to suit your needs, there are 5 tracks across a 5 to 30 minute time range as well as a soundtrack for background music.

Benefits: Yes! After the first couple of sessions and the shedding of layers of tension, I felt more peaceful, relaxed and more in touch with a deeper level of knowing what's important to me. I found myself integrating the release of tension into my daily life and felt the difference when I didn't practice for a couple of days, so consistency is a key to realising the benefits. It's wonderful to experience the cumulative effects of releasing tension (rather than chasing relief from it) and of letting go.

Feel ready to give it a go? You have nothing to lose and potentially much to gain.  www.thehappinessinstitute.com

Even on days when I don't feel stressed or that it is necessary, the added focus and clarity it brings is extraordinary.
